The first cohort of nominees, announced in August, included film composer of the year, television composer of the year and best original song. Nominees are Vincent Cahay for Inexorable, Blaise Delafosse aka Demusmaker for Nowhere and French indie pop band The Penelopes for SpaceBoy. The best original score for a Belgian Production prize returns after last year’s hiatus. The participants are Italy’s Giacomo Rita, Robert Wallace from the US and John Konsolakis from Greece. The contest involves scoring a scene from FW Murnau’s silent-film classic Nosferatu, to mark the film’s centenary this year.
Three composers will compete for the Sabam Award for best original composition by a young composer, with a €2,500 prize. Desai won the discovery of the year award and was nominated for the public choice award at last year’s ceremony, for The Reason I Jump. Nainita Desai’s score for 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible is in the running for the public choice award.
